Robert Riener: human-centered technologies for movement assistance and rehabilitation
On Tuesday 20th of March 2018 Redelijk Eigenzinnig / Reason and Engage (VUB) invites Robert Riener for his lecture <Human-centered technologies for movement assistance and rehabilitation>.
Abstract: Each year millions of people worldwide need assistive and prosthetic devices to master their lives. Unfortunately, current technology is not ideal and thus not well accepted yet. Cybathlon, a series of Olympic-style competitions offers a new approach to promoting the development of assistive and prosthetic devices. It is a championship for athletes with physical disabilities who are using advanced assistive devices including robotic technologies. The main goal of the Cybathlon is to provide a platform to the larger public that presents and benchmarks novel assistive technologies facilitating daily life of people with disabilities or physical weaknesses. The Cybathlon wants to encourage the exchange between people with disabilities, the general public and the research and development world and increase the acceptance of assistive devices across different cultures. In his lecture Prof. Riener will give us an overview of the recent advances in the area of Movement AssistanceandRehabilitation Technologies. To do so he will use some of the experiences and lessons learned from the first Cybathlon-edition (October 2016).
